Aclam The Mocker pedal is based on the fuzz/distortion circuit of the Vox UL730 amp, whereas the Aclam Dr Robert pedal recreates the normal channel of the amp, the tube’s saturation. The Mocker pedal is an expanded rendition of the iconic Vox UL730 series amp's fuzz circuit. To ensure authenticity, Aclam has sourced the rare N.O.S. (New Old Stock) Phillips OA200 diodes, matching those used in the original Vox UL Series amps.


Aclam The Mocker pedal main features:

• Faithful replica of Aclam's own Vox UL730 amp (S/N 3042) internal fuzz circuit.

The Vox UL series amps were the first Vox amps to feature a built-in “distortion” circuit controlled by a footswitch, one of the first ones to use shunt diodes or hard clipping to saturate the guitar’s signal. Although they named it distortion, the resultant tone was closer to a fuzz than what we understand nowadays as a distortion pedal.

Regarding the diodes mentioned, finding those specific ones allowed Aclam to match the ones used in the original Vox amp, attaining its characteristic vintage fuzz tone. When Aclam was designing their Dr Robert pedal, they already tried to integrate the fuzz side of the amp, but those components weren’t available. Since Aclam couldn’t achieve the desired fuzz tone, they decided to go for a device that recreated the tube saturation instead... the Dr Robert.
